Should I Really Sell My Item? The Golden Rule Revisited

Have you ever purchased an item from an okay seller, and, upon receiving the item, been shocked to think ANYONE would have considered selling that item? I certainly have. Now, have you ever paid good money in a land-based store for an item that smelled of body odor, was covered in cat hair, stunk of cigarette smoke, smelled as if it had been stored in a nice, warm, damp environment to encourage mildew growth, had a large hole or a coffee stain prominently featured? I doubt it. Somehow, in the general selection process, the average customer will avoid such items (unless of course, the coffee stain looked like the reincarnation of Elvis, or something equally "collectible".)
OK, I'll presume you agree with my premise. Why then, would you consider offering such an item up for sale on okay? Do you WANT to make your customers upset? Do you RELISH negative feedback? Do you THINK they won't notice?
Many items in our homes have been sitting around, collecting dust and providing less use than work to keep them clean and we are tempted to offer these items up to the highest bidder. After all, it is true that one man's junk is another's treasure. So, even though the item of clothing was a shirt you wore when you were in junior high and haven't been able to fit into for lo these last 25 years, that doesn't mean it isn't a good candidate for okay resale. How about the shoes that you "had to have" and then never found the right outfit to wear them with? They too are an ideal candidate for okay resale. Now, how about those work boots, never really worn, but stored in the shed, where the field mice play in the winter and make babies in boots in spring....hmmmm...maybe not such a good candidate.
Seriously, gemon sense should help you determine whether an item is appropriate to offer for resale, but I'm offering up for your consideration a decision tree that I use to help me decide.
1. Is the item clean, in good repair, free of odors?
Yes ----
